Per-Oral Lipid Based Cannabis Delivery

Delivering medical cannabis in a self-emulsifying pre-concentrate with ABITEC lipids can provide for numerous advantages, as compared with a traditional per-formulation, including:

  • The cannabis actives are completely dissolved in the functional lipid vehicle eliminating the aqueous dissolution barrier typically observed with medical cannabis components.
  • As the cannabis actives are contained in the oil phase of an oil in water emulsion, they are more protected from gastrointestinal degradation.
  • The rapidly dispersing nature of emulsified systems can allow for a more rapid absorption and faster onset of action of the cannabis actives,
  • By including ABITEC long-chain lipids in the formulation it is possible to promote the lymphatic transport of the active cannabis ingredients allowing for the avoidance of first pass metabolism, which can lead to an increase in bioavailability.
